Parade House
c.1776

It is documented that Parade House dates back to c.1776, constructed as a modest military building.  It is considered to have been the first permanent building in the vicinity built outwith the Fort, with the Governor of Fort William relocated here from the confines of the Fort following the Jacobite Rebellions. Parade House, sitting within its own grounds, overlooks Fort William’s historic Parade Gardens at the East end of its High Street. The property was doubled in size during in the mid 19th century and predominantly used as a home until the late 1970’s, with a variety of commercial uses over the last 40 years.

In 2016 Nicola McCallum, local Architect, and her husband, artist James McCallum, took ownership of the historic property that had lain empty. Relocating their furniture painting studio, ‘the old gentleman’s wardrobe’, from a small unit in Fort William’s industrial area, they took on the challenge of transforming Parade House into their new business premises and home.

 ‘McCallum Art House’ now occupies part of the ground floor accommodation, a Contemporary Fine Art Gallery incorporating ‘the old gentleman’s wardrobe’, with its painted furniture and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ range, while the owners steadily progress with creating their home on the upper floors.
